Hi, welcome to my website.
My name is Stephanie Nenadovic. I’m a Dutch author and secondary teacher. In 2022, I moved from The Netherlands to Melbourne to spend my life with my Serbian hubby. A fitting love story for an author. Wat romantisch! 🙂
I can’t remember exactly when I started writing, but I must have been about eight years old. I started out by simply writing out my fantasies and daydreams into my diary. Sometimes I would get inspired by books and movies; at one point I remember writing out the first few scenes of the movie Twister, just for fun.
When I was fifteen, I wrote my first actual manuscript, which I titled Geheimen (Secrets). I was extremely motivated to write at that time, as I had just discovered I was able to write books. Somehow, I accidentally deleted the entire file from my dad’s laptop and ended up rewriting the entire story. But I do have to say that the second version was better than the first one.
After finishing my first book, I quickly continued writing and wrote Geheimen, Deel 2 (Secrets, Part 2). I self-published the books in The Netherlands years later under my maiden name, Stephanie Velings.
I didn’t write again for a few years, as I unfortunately developed an eating disorder during my teenage years. I did work on two projects when I was around 20-21 years old. One was an unpublished autobiography, and the other was a story I completed about 75% of. I don’t plan on finishing that story, but will be using elements of the story in a future novel.
At 24, I partially recovered from my eating disorder and wrote a book about it. The Dutch version was called Hou het simpel, and the English version Keep it simple; stop dieting, start living. I approached two publishing agencies; one in The Netherlands and one in the US. They both agreed to publish my books, although it was very expensive. These books were also published under my maiden name.
Now we get into some territory I don’t enjoy talking about, so I’ll keep it brief. As my book was coming out in the US, I’d actually gotten in contact with an agency that wanted to organize a book launch for me. I was very excited and decided to go. However, when I arrived at the book launch, it turned out to be more of a socialite party. As I talked to people, I quickly figured out that no one even knew who I was or that this was my book launch. After that trip I felt devastated and stopped writing for a whopping nine years. The silver lining? Because I really wanted to focus on something else, I decided to go back to school to become a teacher, which is something I’ve wanted to be since I was a toddler. I enjoy teaching very much and that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
In 2021 everything changed. Not just my writing journey, but my entire life. That year I met another artist online; an illustrator and comic book artist. While getting to know him (and falling in love with him), I became incredibly inspired to start writing again. And in that year, I wrote Alyssa.
Long story short, in July 2022 I moved to Melbourne to spend my life with my now husband. I continued writing and produced Jack. After that, I wrote September’s Aftermath in 2023.
Because of my bad experience with publishing, I knew right away that I wanted to go down the self-publishing route from now on. And so, I self-published Alyssa, Jack and September’s Aftermath on Amazon. This time under my married name: Stephanie Nenadovic.
At the moment, I’m working on completing two projects: One Perfect Friend and The Outsider (working title), and they’ll be published on Amazon in the next few weeks/months.
My approach to writing and publishing is very relaxed now. For me, writing is not about perfection, but all about having fun with characters and storylines that resonate with me. After all; writing is supposed to be fun!
If anything on my website resonates with you, please feel free to contact me.
